In the quiet moments of therapy, a question often rises to the surface—raw, vulnerable, and deeply human:
“What does it mean to do the work?” “How do I know I’m making progress?” “I’m telling you my problems. Why can’t you just give me the answers?”
I hear these questions often. They’re not just about therapy—they’re about life, about healing, about the ache for clarity when everything feels uncertain.
When a client asks me this, I usually take a breath. Not because I don’t have thoughts to share, but because I want to honor the courage it takes to ask. And then I say:
Everyone’s journey is personal.
There is no universal map for healing. No checklist that guarantees transformation. The path forward isn’t something I can hand you—it’s something you discover, step by step, choice by choice.
If I gave you the answers, I’d be robbing you of something sacred: the moment you arrive at your own truth. That moment when you stand at a fork in the road, heart pounding, and choose the direction that feels most aligned with your becoming.
Why? Because it’s your life. Your choice.
